RE: UV lamps

Dear Mohan,

What are you using the UV lamp for ? For example, in a water loop ?, or safety cabinet ? The use and quality risk is not the same. When the system was installed and qualified your supplier should have specified the appropriate lifetime for the UV lamp. All that should be documented in the equipment file and operating procedure. I assume that you have been logging (documenting) hours of use in the equipment's log book. The efficiency of the lamp will decline with use. I strongly suggest you replace the lamp according to the manufacturer's recommendations otherwise you may end up using a lamp that is not working correctly. Alternatively, depending on the risk, if you consider that the lamp is ok and have demonstrated this, you could consider a change control and modify your maintenance programme accordingly.

Regards,

Stephen Brown
